EVS in PALERMO!

Duration: 4 months
➡Number of volunteers :2
➡Project start date : 20th of September 2018
➡Project place: Palermo
➡ Description:
The project M.A.R.T.IN (Migrants- Welcome- Recycle- Territory- Inclusion ) is a project idea that will involve 6 volunteers coming from Turkey, Germany and Spain that will spend 4 months in two different cities in Italy, Palermo (in Sicily) and Villa Castelli (in Apulia). They will be aged between 19 and 25 and will be selected taking into consideration: their motivation, their interest in the migration issues, their personal inclination to cultural dialogue. The two contexts are facing in this real period the challenge offered by the welcome process of migrants coming from Africa, Asia and the Middle East. They are young people and most of them are minors. They live in shared houses, called “communities” and welcome centres where they live in close contact among themselves and the educators of the camps but they have little access to the creation of relationships with people from the exterior and they often don’t have, except from going to school, many occasions to practice sports and to experience leasure activities.
The project will give the volunteers involved the possibility to know more about the situation of migrants in Palermo and Villa Castelli, to experience cultural activities discovering the surronding territory, to speak with people that will help the volunteers to understand the needs of the migrants community living there, to read articles and analyse documents describing topics like the problems of inclusion, the struggle against racism, the engagement of different figures involved in migrations.
After having discovered these context aspects, they will be involved in the planning, organization of activities for minor migrants that are living in communities and other places in cohabitation. The activities in Palermo will be organized in common places, using the techniques of creative recycle and organizing artistic workshops dedicated to young migrants. the key word will be “recycle”.
Together with the creation of artistic products, useful to the house itself, the volunteers will be involved in the creation of guidelines with the description of the workshops implemented so that the educators and operators will be able to re-propose the workshops even after the end of the project. In
Villa Castelli the same activities will be organized in close contact with nature: trekking on bike and walkings will be organized and will involve volunteers and young migrants in the discovering of the rich nature and folkrore of villa Castelli.
The volunteers, in the meanwhile, during the organization of the mentionaed activities, will be involved in the support to Tulime Onlus during the organization of dissemination events, supporting the different offices depending on their personal skills and on the competences they would like to develop and improve (Communication Office, Project Planning Office, administration, etc.). The methodology used will be that one of on-formal delìvelopment of competences and community cooperation. The will be asked to write reports and articles describing the xperience they are living,
The core competences that they will have the possibility to enhance will be: communication skills, time management, team building. The specific skills they will develop will be: how to plan and organize workshops, how to decide the suitable techniques and methodologies to address these workshops to young people of different cultural background, how to analyse a context and a situation, how to manage people, how to write guidelines and handbooks.
The main impacts will be on the direct beneficieries of the activities ( the young migrants will benefit from the proposal of the leisure activities and they will know more about he occasion offered by Erasmus plus even for migrants and asylum seekers), people working in the field of migrations (that will benefit from the methodology offered by the volunteer in the organization of the workshop), the participating and associated partners (that will benefit from a new collaboration, new involvement, new skills in partnership management), the local communities of the two cities (people will benefit from the results’ dissemination and from a better knowledge aout the EVS Program)
